The time you will likely realize your headlights – one or both – don’t work is when it’s dark out. This is no laughing matter. Remember, if your headlights don’t work, other drivers may have trouble seeing you. Fortunately, newer vehicles have running lights, while older vehicles have parking lights. If you discover your headlights do not work, try one of those options, even your directionals or emergency flashers. Another option is to try your high beams. If they work, continue to observe distance guidelines so you don’t blind other drivers. You want to get off the road as soon as you can. Street or business lights may help to guide you. In the worst of the worse cases, you might lose all of your lights. This is probably not a lamp issue but an electrical issue. Again, do your best to get off the road as soon as you can. Reduce your speed and pull off when safe. Don’t risk a trip home with your vehicle in this condition. Even a short trip can turn deadly if you’ve got no lights and choose to drive in the dark.
