Road Rage Law

This new 2019 law is quite simple. Do not use the left lane of a freeway as a travel lane. If you drive in the far left lane for more than one and a half miles, you can be cited. The far left lanes on freeways are typically reserved for passing, however there are exceptions where you can drive in the far left lane:

  • You are approaching a left side exit.
  • Traffic is extremely heavy and all lanes are backed up.
  • Weather or road conditions force you to stay left.
  • You are approaching a toll booth.
  • The road is reconfigured because of construction.
