Traffic Control Device

Any type of light or sign that provides direction or instruction to drivers.

Speed Limits: Speed limits are the maximum speed at which it has been determined you can travel safely. The speed limit signs you see posted along the roads were not just placed haphazardly. A great deal of work and study went into determining an appropriate maximum speed at which vehicles should travel along specific stretches of road. Factors such as the number of curves on the road or road conditions come into play. The crash history of a particular road is considered as is the amount of lighting, if any. If the road is hilly or has a lot of blind spots, a lower speed limit may be posted. In areas that are heavily populated, you’ll see lower speed limits; on open rural roads, limits might be higher.
