Wiper Failure

Your windshield wipers can fail in a couple of ways. They may be excessively worn and will stop to clear the windshield. The wiper blades may be dirty or have a coating of ice that you did not clean off. If this is the case, pull over when safe and clean the blades. You might try your windshield washer fluid first. This may correct dirty wipers. The worst scenario is, of course, when the wiper motor fails to activate in rain or snow. In this case, you will need to wipe your windshield clear from the inside. Open the driver’s side window and clean as much as you can so you can see. Then, pull off the road immediately. Do not attempt to travel a long distance. With no wipers in bad weather, you are, in effect, driving blind.
